under construction

Construction-Site-Panorama

Saw this the other day on my way back from lunch. Note the wooden scaffolding.

“…In a recent contribution, Javier Cuenca Esteban …puts the “arguably minimum transfers” from India to Britain between 1757 and 1815, Plassey and Waterloo, at 30.2 million sterling. This figure is the estimate of exports from which there was no compensating import for India.”

Computed (in an admittedly table-napkin fashion):

In 2008, £30200000 0s 0d from 1775 is worth

£3,070,000,000.00 using the retail price index.
£41,100,000,000.00 using average earnings.
